When the Truth Hurts

Democracy is alive despite what they say. The simple post that “Risa Hontiveros achieved nothing” stirred thousands of reactions on social media. The reason is simple – the truth hurts. If you listen to what they are saying, they insist on a particular type of morality that puts them above a pedestal, judging others who want to form a separate opinion. They will accuse you of suffering from blind obedience, when in truth, they are the ones who lack common sense.

Indeed, these people are free to believe what they want to believe. They impose on many their view of the world. To allow them to insult you is to say that they are the only ones who have the right to walk upon the earth when in a democracy, we are equal in dignity. The real problem, actually, is that even the most educated lack good manners. It is a problem of attitude. Another thing is that people actually do not read. They rely on online posts, memes, and disinformation.

They accused those who differ from their views as an enabler without even reading any source or comprehending your view. They immediately judge people believing that it can advance their self-righteous motives. Others are correct in their observation that these people are sick due to their professional jealousy. They actually lack attention but when they get a response, they suddenly cry victim and pray for others to sympathize with their myopic or tunnel vision.

Cancel Culture is not a new phenomenon. It is rooted in the politics of exclusion. But right now, such has metamorphosed into something with the advent of social media. Cancelling is what woke culture wants to do to people who criticize celebrities and their political idols. Fans feel that when their a famous star is criticized, they are the ones who are being attacked. These new agents of change who feel that they are on top of a moral high chair think that morality is a monolith block that is peddled by an army of self-righteous people.

In fact, they are the ugly faces of democracy. They are the ones who kill democracy with their lack of tolerance. They judge and label people because they do not agree with them. One reason is apparent. They are wanting in acceptance, they are insecure, but most have the mindset of the elite among us who hide their pretense behind their moral standards. Some are writers, some are lawyers, others are academics, but all the same, these people are a bad influence to the young.
